Marriage: Two people becoming "one flesh".

Reflections on Sunday, July 26, 2026

Scripture describes marriage as two people becoming “one flesh.” Over forty-five years, Naomi’s life and mine became deeply intertwined. We shared our family, our faith, our ministry, our decisions, our disappointments, our joys, and the ordinary routines of daily life. Eventually, we also shared the long journey through PKD and dialysis. Yet when the time came, Naomi had to make the final part of that journey without me—the journey into the presence of Jesus. There was sorrow in our parting, but there was also deep joy for both of us in knowing where she was going and Who was waiting to receive her. For now, only one of us has gone: Naomi. I remain here, continuing the life and calling God has given me, while looking forward to the day when I, too, will enter Christ’s presence. I also hold close the hope of a glorious reunion. During one of her final days, Naomi told each of our children that she wanted to see them again in glory. That was not merely a farewell; it was her invitation to place their faith in Jesus—if they had not already and her confident expectation that, because of Him, our separation is real but not forever.

Awaiting the day!
