Some of the Presenters at previous "State of Milwaukee" Symposiums, and their books!

Transform A City -Eric Swanson & Sam Williams

A few quotes from the book:

"The city puts you in proximity to people who think differently than you do, so you must think differently" Tim Kellor

"The city actually has a greater transformational effect on one's spiritual formation than the church itself."

"The kingdom of God is larger than the church-it is built by people of goodwill working together with people of good faith to accomplish God's agenda." ..."We believe that Jesus still invites unbelievers to be part of his miraculous work."

"Have you ever considered that while all of the necessary gifts for ministry and maturity are contained within the church, they may not all reside in a particular local congregation?

Mission Drift-Peter Greer & Chris Horst

A few quotes from the book"

"One of the primary reasons for Mission Drift is that people join your organization who are very excited about portions of your vision, but are either opposed to or don't care about the rest of it."
A short Mission Drift Y Tube Trailer

Where The Cross Meets The Street-What happens to the neighborhood when God is at the center.  Noel Castellanos

Christian Community Developement Association

"If we want to help someone appreciate the gospel we bring, we must appreciate their culture and mentality."

"Churches and charitable organizations, though well-intentioned, have missed the mark when it comes to serving the poor, creating a toxic form of charity. A better system would be to treat the poor as business partners, empowering them to start businesses, build houses, plan communities and ultimately take control of their  own lives, with the support of compassionate, caring believers."

Thanks to National Christian Foundation. Wisconsin for putting on the Symposium!

Programs for poverty alleviation are good...but "without heart change, money, healthcare, housing, and education do not meet our world's deepest needs." "Apart from Christ, we might simply introduce the problems of prosperity while we solve the problems of poverty. -  Peter Greer

Our "roots" need to run deep in God's word.

Need good "soil".

"The church should be the most creative entity in the world."

A similar comment was made at the Symposium.

By "Church" I mean the people of God, not the physical building or institution.

You as an individual can use your creativity to bring glory and honor to the LORD!

 What a journey!

Overview of N.T Neighborhood Transformation

"God has created each of us with a unique contribution to make in our world and our times. No other person has our same abilities, motivations, network of friends and relationships, perspectives, ideas, or experiences. When we, like misplaced puzzle pieces, fail to show up, the overall picture is diminished."

Richard Stearns: President of World Vision U.S.
Quote from his book: The Hole in our Gospel

We don't have to be a part or a volunteer in any of the non profits that made presentations at the Symposium...unless you are passionate about what they are doing and can connect with them and use your strengths, passion, gifts, abilities. But check out How to become a change agent in your neighborhood!

Get started as an individual and see where the LORD leads!
